The Makers
Every Royal Nilambur piece passes through the hands of craftsmen who have spent decades mastering a single set of techniques. Not machines. Not factories. People whose grandparents built furniture with the same joints.
How a piece is made
Every plank is hand-selected from Kerala Forest Department authorised depots. Only tight-grained, high-oil Nilambur Wild Teak — never plantation wood.
Timber is air-dried for a minimum of 18 months before use. This slow conditioning reduces moisture content and prevents later movement.
All joints — mortise, tenon, dovetail — are cut by hand. No CNC. The slight variation of hand-cutting creates a tighter compression fit than machine tolerances.
Every structural connection uses hand-cut mortise-and-tenon, dovetail, or drawbored-peg joints — mechanical locks designed to tighten as the wood breathes. This is why the furniture becomes more solid with age, not less.
Three to five hand-applied coats of natural teak oil, sanded between each. The final coat is applied after the piece has been assembled and tested for stability.
A senior craftsman inspects every joint, surface, and dimension before delivery. The warranty certificate is only issued once the piece passes this inspection.
